The Symbol of Nam-Gu took the motif from the Chinese Character Îà (¡®Gwang¡¯ meaning ¡®light¡¯) symbolizing Gwangju and Gossaumnori (Important Intangible Cultural Asset No. 33) passed down in the Chilseok-Dong area. Gossaum has the cultural implication of being a unifier of residents and of their collective spirit and power making that unity our skill for development in the future through pastimes, prayer and amusement in our agrarian society.
Godong and Gosun, the brother-and-sister characters of Nam-Gu playing Gossaumnori, represent an ambitious, dynamic and bright appearance and a dignified and kind appearance, respectively. The traditional clothing, facial expressions and soft colors make viewers feel comfortable and familiar with Godong and Gosun.
